In a thefyfes.blogspot.com exclusive, we can reveal that Team Fyfe are close to securing the services of Turkish youngster Burak Akinci.
Akinci, who has played for Sydney University and Sydney Boys High since his transfer from Turkish side Genclerbirligi in 2004, is regarded as a player with phenomenal ball skills and a sound knowledge of the game, according to a club insider.
Akinci impressed in a disappointing Sydney High side over the past two seasons, appearing in every match and being selected for the Greater Public Schools representative side.
He is best remembered for scoring what coach Richard Gifford described as "the best goal in ten years," a thirty-yard screamer against SCECGS Redlands in a pre-season friendly in 2005.
The Turk, who will combine his football with studies in Business Administration and Economics at Macquarie University, will be hoping to realise the talent which saw him become the only Genclerbirligi youth who was permitted to train with the senior players.
It is understood the path was cleared for Akinci's signing when his father approved the transfer fee over an emotional long-distance phone call from Ankara.
Team Fyfe now faces a race against time and red tape to have Akinci registered in time for this Sunday's match at Queens Park.
